Lord of Mysteries Episode 1 Review

Lord of Mysteries Episode 1 Review

Warning: Spoilers! >.<

Intro

I really appreciate the intro with the explanation of the world-building. The voiceover is excellent, seriously, it sounds amazing. The animation is crisp and fluid, kind of reminds me of Castlevania.

The sound effects are top tier too, feels like something out of a Michael Bay movie. A bit too many vine booms though, XD. This is actually my first time watching a Chinese anime, and I’m honestly impressed. I love how the animators play with perspective, it adds a lot to the atmosphere and aesthetic. A 34‑minute first episode? That’s promising.

Now, the intro with the world-building might help newcomers get familiar with the story, but personally, I found it a bit off‑putting. These kinds of info‑dumps usually bore me. That said, it looks like they dive straight into the plot, no time wasted. I love that.

Concourse

The textures, backgrounds, everything is incredibly detailed. They clearly didn’t slack off here. Very well done. The character movements are smooth too.

From what I gather so far, the MC has been reincarnated again, right at the moment when “Klein” is committing suicide. Looks like this is going to be a good isekai, not like the usual trash. I’m guessing the story is about him exploring who this Klein person is? Hence the title Lord of Mysteries? XD I don’t know yet.

Getting Harry Potter vibes from this. The MC’s sister is kinda cute, honestly adorable. I love how they stick to one visual theme throughout, this dark, dystopian, medieval Europe vibe with mostly muted tones. It looks grim but in a visually cool way.

I really enjoy the momentary suspense built through both the animation and the sound effects. Even the mid‑episode card was well timed and nicely animated. I'd already rate this a 9 out of 10 just for the animation alone. I don’t like the CGI integration much though, and some of the color saturation feels excessive. As for the SFX, the mix of electronic sounds in a medieval fantasy setting is actually pretty creative, it surprisingly works.

Honest opinion here XD: this seems like the kind of anime where the MC is overpowered right from the start and just flexes his abilities constantly. It kind of reminds me of Overlord, except in Overlord, Ainz had to build his presence first. Here, the MC is just acting like a boss from the get‑go, as if all his powers were handed to him. Still, it’s entertaining.

So bro is basically trying to go back home, but it seems like he’ll need to conquer the world or something in order to do that. Sounds pretty generic. Also, the heavy focus on the "leveling" system, in this case becoming a “Beyonder,” feels a bit forced. It doesn’t develop naturally. That warp scene into another dimension for the gathering? Loved it. Bro was out there aura farming, XDD.

I finally found a few weak points in the animation. Some shots were clearly just PNGs being warped and curved to simulate movement. Still, that’s acceptable considering how good the overall animation is. Now it’s shifting into a bit of a thriller vibe, and I’m loving the story’s pacing. But honestly, there’s so much going on that it’s hard to write this while watching.

Conclusion / Outro

Now that was something, pure cinema if you ask me. The sheer amount of elements packed into the story shows that the author really loves what they’ve created, pouring heart and soul into every frame. The whole story feels like a mix of Overlord, Fate, and a bit of Re:Zero. The atmosphere building is insane, absolutely nailed it. Even the outro was well made; the song perfectly matched the anime’s vibe.

Overall, I’d say I’m in for a great watch. This anime definitely won’t let me get bored. It feels like watching a full‑length movie with a mind‑blowing plot. However, the story still follows that typical manhwa pattern of an OP MC flexing on weaklings and aura farming, XD. It’s pretty emo, but I actually love how unapologetically deep it goes into that trope. I think it’ll perform well.

Gonna check out the next two episodes soon, three episodes are out so far. I loved how this anime doesn’t bog you down with dry, boring exposition about the story or world structure. Instead, it just flows, unfolding the plot as it moves forward. Not totally natural though, some parts try too hard to steer you toward the core plot which can be boring if not timed properly.
